Please join us for Jenny Sharaf’s first solo exhibition in San Francisco, CA. Sharaf will present a brand new body of work in The Luggage Store’s Haight Street Project Space. For this series of gestural abstract paintings on fabric, Sharaf highlights the performative act of painting with a saturated and quasi-psychedelic color palette.
Sharaf is a multidisciplinary artist living and working in San Francisco, CA. Her paintings, installations, videos and works on paper celebrate process, while reflecting on art history, feminism and abstraction. Sharaf is strongly influenced by the Hollywood vernacular and the aestheticization of California, in part because of her family’s background in the film and television business and growing up in Los Angeles. Sharaf’s childhood in LA made her cynical of screens, critical of the media’s gaze, yet intrigued by the spectacle. The new work abstracts these experiences into formal compositions of smooth surfaces, enchanting hues and bold mark-making.
